ALBANY, N.Y. – Manhattan scored 20 runs for the second time this season on Wednesday at Albany, but the Jaspers fell 21-20 to the Great Danes.
This season, Manhattan (17-20) is the only team in the MAAC to score at least 20 runs in a game.
Every Jasper hitter hit at least two hits—Manhattan finished with 21—and scored at least one run on Wednesday.
Manhattan trailed 13-2 after two innings. UAlbany (18-17) scored 11 in the second to break a 2-2 tie. The Jaspers responded with nine in the top of the third and seven more in the fourth to take an 18-13 lead.
Jack Lynch got the third inning started with a solo homer to right-center. Lynch doubled in
David Bermudez to finish the scoring in the inning, as the Jaspers sent 14 batters to the plate. Bermudez doubled in two before getting brought in by Lynch.
The Jaspers took a 14-13 lead on a
Pete Durocher two-run double with one out in the fourth.
Frankie Marinelli scored on an error to finish the inning.
UAlbany scored twice in the fourth before Manhattan added its final two runs in the top of the fifth.
Matt Padre scored on a wild pitch before
Harrison Treble scored on a Lynch double. It was Lynch's fifth RBI of the game. That would give Manhattan a 20-15 lead.
The Great Danes chipped away at the lead from there. The home side scored three in the sixth, two in the seventh, and the winning run in the eighth. John Daly hit a solo shot in the eighth to make it 21-20 Great Danes.
Bermudez finished with four RBI and two runs scored. Lynch had three doubles, which is a season-high by a Jasper. Treble scored four times and finished 2-for-5 at the plate.
Up next for Manhattan is a weekend trip to Quinnipiac for a three-game set starting Friday at 3 p.m.
