RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan shut out Monmouth in both games on Saturday as the Jaspers swept the Hawks at Gaelic Park on Senior Day.
It is the first sweep of Monmouth in a doubleheader at Gaelic Park since April 12, 2015. The Jaspers are 5-1 in their last six meetings with the Hawks.
Game 1: Manhattan 3, Monmouth 0
Annie Moore's three-run home run in the bottom of the third was enough for the Jaspers to pick up the win.
Jessie Rising carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning before Monmouth's (7-33, 2-7) Abby Warner singled with one away in the final frame.
Moore's homer came in her first game in three weeks as she deposited one over the left-field fence to score
Lauren Rende and
Megan Gillooley.
In the circle, Manhattan's (8-24, 2-5 MAAC) Rising struck out six to pick up her fourth win of the season. The senior, who was honored in between games with four others, faced one more than the minimum over the first three innings.
In game one, Rende (2) and Gillooley (1) had the other three hits for the Jaspers.
Game 2: Manhattan 1, Monmouth 0
Ava Metzger struck out 10 Hawks and drove in the game's lone run with a single to right-center in the fourth inning.
On Metzger's RBI hit,
Marika Deemer scored for Manhattan (9-24, 3-5 MAAC). It was only Metzger's second RBI of the season.
In the circle, the freshman struck out the side in the first after allowing a lead-off double to Stavi Augur.
Monmouth's (7-34, 2-8) best chance came in the fourth. Emily Spencer walked to lead off the inning. With one away, Danielle Dominik hit a ball into the right-centerfield gap off the glove of
Megan Gillooley. Gillooley then first the ball to second, where
Kaitlyn Flood applied the tag to Dominik for the second out of the inning. Spencer advanced only to third on the play and was stranded there at the inning's end.
Metzger did not allow a baserunner over the final three innings.

Lauren Rende, and
Jessie Rising had hits for the Jaspers.
Manhattan returns to action on Sunday with a doubleheader against Rider at Gaelic Park. The first pitch between the Broncs and Jaspers is set for 12 p.m.
