LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Manhattan lost to Rider 11-1 on Saturday in the second game of the series between the two schools at Sonny Pittaro Field. Rider opened with five runs in the first inning while holding the Manhattan offense to four hits along the way.
Jack Winsett led off the first with a single and later scored on an RBI single from Luke Lesch. The Broncs scored again on the next at-bat off an RBI groundout from Brian Skettini before Brendan O'Donnell delivered a three-run home run that extended the lead to 5-0.
After the Jaspers left two runners on base in the top of the third, O'Donnell added his second homer of the game, and 12th of the season, on a solo shot to left field that made the score 6-0.
Unable to cut into the Rider lead, Manhattan's deficit grew to 7-0 in the seventh inning when Skettini supplied the Broncs' third homer of the day over the left-field fence.
Dolan Ocasal supplied the lone for the Jaspers in the top of the eighth. The second basemen connected on his first homer of the season to left center.
Rider put the finishing touches on the game in the eighth inning with back-to-back long balls from Socrates Bardatsos and Lesch, respectively. The homer from Bardatsos was a two-run shot before Lesch followed suit with a solo blast.
Manhattan batters went down in order in the ninth against Frank DelGuercio, who replaced winning pitcher Frank Doelling at the start of the eighth inning. Doelling registered seven scoreless innings to go along with 10 strikeouts.
Jordan Warecke started on the mound for the Jaspers and lasted six innings while allowing eight runs.
Ohjiro Motoki provided two innings in relief and allowed three runners to score.
The Jaspers (16-19, 6-8 MAAC) will look to take the series finale against the Broncs (20-16, 8-3 MAAC), with the first pitch scheduled for noon on Sunday, April 24 on ESPN3.
