Jaspers Split Sunday Doubleheader at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – Manhattan split Sunday's doubleheader at Quinnipiac. The Jaspers fell in extra innings in game one before winning the second game of the twin bill.
 
Game 1: Quinnipiac 6, Manhattan 5 (8 innings)
Manhattan (5-19, 0-3 MAAC) took a 5-4 lead in the top of the sixth inning after scoring a pair of runs. Madison Ihnat hit a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game at four. Megan Gillooley followed with an RBI single to score Gabriella Mazzotta.
 
Quinnipiac (6-18, 1-4) put two runners on the bottom of the sixth, but Jessie Rising was able to work out around them and preserve the 5-4 lead for Manhattan.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, the Bobcats got its first two hitters on and advanced them to second and third with a groundout. Serena Fogg tied the game with a single to left that scored Cy Gonzalez.
 
Marika Deemer started the eighth with a double for Manhattan. Lily Fish came on to pinch run but was stranded at third.
 
The Bobcats put runners are the corners via an error and a single for Kayla Thomas. Thomas hit the game-winning sacrifice fly to center.
 
Gillooley was the long Jasper to record multiple hits. Rising scored twice and lasted 4.1 innings after getting the start in the circle.
 
Game 2: Manhattan 11, Quinnipiac 5
Manhattan (6-19, 1-3 MAAC) scored four in the sixth and two more in the seventh to break open a 5-5 game to win game two.
 
The Jaspers sent nine batters to the plate in the sixth. Megan Gillooley started the inning with a triple and scored on a Lauren Rende RBI single. The final three runs of the inning scored on a wild pitch and an error by the Bobcats.
 
Gillooley doubled in the seventh to bring in Gabi Mills to make it 10-5. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Rende brought in Gillooley once again with an RBI hit back up the middle.
 
Manhattan scored twice in the first and third innings only to see Quinnipiac (6-19, 1-5) tie it up with four in the third. Both teams added runs in the fifth before the Jaspers blew it open.
 
Gillooley finished 3-for-4, with all three hits going for extra bases. The senior drove in one and scored twice. Rende and Jessie Rising went 2-for-4 and scored twice. Ava Metzger collected the win relief for Manhattan.
 
The Jaspers return to action on Tuesday at Gaelic Park when they welcome Sacred Heart for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
