Softball Falls to Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Manhattan softball team lost 7-1 to the Columbia Lions at the Baker Athletics Complex on Wednesday afternoon.  

The Lions scored one run early and then kept their lead rolling with four additional runs in the fourth. The Jaspers responded by getting on the board in the fifth, scoring one. Marika Deemer RBI singled through the right side to advance Megan Hedlund home. 

Columbia's Abby Stuart homered to left field in the second half of the same inning to make the score 6-1. The Lions added one more in the bottom of the sixth to reach the final score of 7-1. 

Mollie Charest got the start for the Jaspers and lasted three innings. Jessie Rising pitched an inning for the Jaspers. Freshman, Ava Metzger closed the game for the Green and White adding two strikeouts for the day. 
 
Manhattan returns to the diamond at home at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, N.Y., on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. for a doubleheader against Seton Hall.
