ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Manhattan could not come back after St. Bonaventure opened with a seven-goal first quarter in a 15-9 loss for the Jaspers on Saturday.
Manhattan (3-5, 1-1 MAAC) played St. Bonaventure (7-2, 2-0) even over the final three quarters.
The Jaspers took a 1-0 lead less than three minutes in on a goal from
Jake Nicolosi. However, the Bonnies would score the next nine goals and would keep the Jaspers scoreless for close to a full quarter before
Kyle Gucwa scored on a man-up opportunity with 12:28 remaining in the second.
Gucwa's second of the day and a tally from
Liam Walshe got the Jaspers to within five, 9-4, with 5:21 to play in the second quarter. St. Bonaventure would score two of the final three goals of the stanza to take an 11-5 lead at the half.
A four-goal run spanning the third and fourth quarters got Manhattan within four, 13-9, with less than seven minutes to play.
Jack Shanley bookended the run with goals.
Shanley's goal at 6:59 of the fourth would be the last of the day for the Jaspers. Manhattan would test Brett Dobson in the St. Bonaventure goal, but Dobson stopped the three shots that made it on frame.
Jake Rosa finished with a game-high seven points to lead St. Bonaventure. Three of Rosa's four goals came in the seven-goal first quarter for the Bonnies.
Shanley and Walshe had four points for the Jaspers. Walshe finished his hat trick with his goal in the fourth.
Manhattan is back in action on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Gaelic Park against Canisius.
