POMONA, N.Y. – After a pitcher's duel in game one of the weekend series, Manhattan and Canisius combined for 21 runs Saturday as the Jaspers fell 13-5.
Manhattan (9-11, 1-1 MAAC) led 2-0 after RBI from
David Bermudez and
Jack Lynch in the opening frame.
The lead would not last long as Canisius would plate six runs in the top of the second inning. Eleven Golden Griffins would come to plate in the inning. The only extra-base hit of the inning came from Vinny Chiarenza, who hit a two-RBI double to left field.
The Jaspers would cut the deficit to one with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth. The two in the sixth came via a two-run homer off the bat of
Pete Durocher.
Canisius again responded to the Manhattan runs with four in the top of the seventh. Eleven more Griffs came to the plate and forced Manhattan to make three pitching changes in the innings. The Golden Griffins had only two hits in the inning.
In the ninth, three runs from Canisius brought the game to the final margin.
Bermudez and Durocher finished with two RBI.
Zahan Meyer was the lone Jasper to record multiple hits.
Chris Pouliot gave the Griffs six innings to collect the win.
Jordan Warecke picked up the loss after allowing six runs over five innings.
Chiarenza finished with four RBI. Dylan Vincent went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for Canisius.
On Sunday, the two teams return to Clover Stadium for game three of the series. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
