FAIRFIELD, Conn. – On Wednesday afternoon, a five-goal fourth quarter helped Manhattan get past Sacred Heart, 10-6.
Manhattan (6-3) got six points from Grace Lipponer and two from
Julianna Iovine.
The Jaspers got to work early and opened on a 3-0 run. Manhattan held the Pioneers to just one goal and ended the quarter with a 3-1 lead. The two teams each scored a pair of goals in the second to end the half with a score of 5-3.
Sacred Heart (2-6) did make it interesting with a three-goal run of their own, scoring the lone goal in the third quarter. The Pioneers scored two goals in the first five minutes of the fourth to make it a 6-5 game.
Lipponer answered the run with a goal of her own to tie it up. The Jaspers would find their rhythm and add another four goals to end with a 10-6 final score. Lipponer scored three of the five goals scored in the final 15 minutes.
Lipponer's five brings her season total to 33, which is a new single-season career-best for the senior. Iovine scored two goals for the Green and White. Reagan Mullins and Julia Fernades each finished with a goal for the Jaspers.
The Jaspers return to action on Saturday at home in their first conference game. Manhattan will take the Canisius Golden Griffins at 12:00 p.m. at Gaelic Park.
