Manhattan Splits Doubleheader at St. John's

QUEENS, N.Y. – Manhattan split a doubleheader at St. John's on Friday afternoon. The Jaspers took game one 11-6 and fell 2-1 in game two.

The win in game one ran the Jaspers win streak to four games before the set back in game two.

Game 1: Manhattan 11, St. John's 6 (F/8)
In a game that was scheduled for seven innings, Manhattan forced extra innings with a three-run top of the seventh before scoring five in the top of the eighth.

St. John's led 6-2 after a four-run bottom of the fifth.

The Jaspers got one across in the top of the sixth with an RBI groundout from Trevor Santos. Harrison Treble plated a run with an RBI double in the top of the seventh. Matt Padre followed with a game-tying two-RBI single up the middle.

In the top of the eighth, the Jaspers pushed across five runs with the benefit of only two hits. A walk, an error, and a single loaded the bases for Dolan Ocasal. Ocasal and Frankie Marinelli drove in runs with walks to give the Jaspers an 8-6 lead.

David Bermudez reached on a fielder's choice that scored a run. The only RBI hit of the inning came from Jack Lynch, who singled through the right side to bring the final two runs for the Jaspers.

John Farley picked up the win for the Jaspers after pitching three and a third innings of shutout relief.

Game 2: St. John's 2, Manhattan 1 (F/7)
After the Jaspers and Red Storm combined for 17 runs on 24 hits in the game one, it was a pitcher's duel in game two.

The two St. John's runs came on hit in the bottom fourth. Jackson Tucker scored Max Shabestari and Luke Orbon with two outs in the frame.

David Bermudez provided the offense for the Jaspers with a solo homer in the top of the sixth. The homer was the shortstop's fourth of the season.

Will Hesslink only allowed the two runs over six innings of work and struck out four for Manhattan. Dylan Johnson picked up the win for the Red Storm with his five-inning start and allowing just the Bermudez homer.

The Jaspers and Red Storm return to action on Sunday for the rubber match of this weekend series at 1 p.m. in Queens.
