ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Manhattan advanced to the semifinals of the MAAC 2022 Championships with a 61-49 win over Canisius on Thursday inside the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall. Manhattan secured its 20th season win, the most since the 2010-11 season.
In the first quarter, Manhattan (20-10) led by as much as seven with just over four minutes to play before seeing Canisius (6-25) cut the lead to one. The Green and White scored four unanswered points to maintain a 19-14 lead. In the opening ten minutes of play, freshman Petra Juric tallied four points and five rebounds.
Canisius managed to close the gap to one again and ended the half with a 7-0 run to get within one, 32-31. Dee Dee Davis scored six of her 18 points in the first half. Brazil Harvey-Carr tallied eight of her 11 points. Defensively, the Green and White registered five steals, three blocks, and 28 rebounds in the opening two quarters.
The Jaspers proved to be resilient in the third, going on a 14-0 run to start the half. In the first minute, Manhattan scored five points, thanks to a Davis hit a layup and a Harvey-Carr deep corner three. The Jaspers fended off the Griffs and built a 12 point lead, 48-36, to start the final quarter. The Green and White held the Griffs to five points in the third quarter.

In the fourth, Manhattan continued their scoring streak with a 6-0 run to add to their lead. With just over three minutes to play, Davis hit a deep-top-of-the-key three to score her 1,000th career point. The Jaspers would pull away and secure a 61-49 victory.
Manhattan defended its reputation as a nationally ranked rebounding team by grabbing 50 rebounds, compared to the Griffs 36. Additionally, the Jaspers forced 15 turnovers that led to 17 points. The Green and White added 10 steals, four blocks, and 28 points in the paint.
Manhattan limited Canisius to 30-percent shooting and only 18-61 from inside the 3-point line.
Davis finished with a game-high 18 points and six rebounds. Warley had 10 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Harvey-Carr added nine rebounds and 11 points. Juric finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Erika Joseph finished with 15 points to lead Canisius.
Manhattan awaits number two seed Quinnipiac on Friday in the MAAC semifinals in Atlantic City, N.J. The Bobcats and Jaspers tip at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
