NEW YORK – The Manhattan women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener at Columbia, 13-7, on Saturday afternoon.
Reagan Mullins opened the scoring for Manhattan (0-1) on the season and the game with a tally inside the first three minutes.
Columbia (1-0) responded with four straight goals in less than four minutes. Four different Lions found the back of the net.
The Jaspers ended the run with another goal from Mullins with just over six minutes to play. Manhattan got back even with two goals inside the final minute of the opening quarter.
Julianna Iovine scored in a man-up situation, then
Grace Lipponer tied the game with 19 seconds remaining.
In the second, Manhattan took a 7-5 lead after a three-goal run over two minutes early in the stanza.
Annie Freshour started the stretch before Lipponer and Mullins added to it.
In the second half, Columbia held Manhattan scoreless while the Lions four goals in the third and four more in the fourth.
Up next for the Jaspers is the home opener on Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Wagner at Gaelic Park.
