PHOENIX, AZ – The Manhattan women's basketball team fell to North Dakota in game two of the GCU Thanksgiving Classic Saturday afternoon, 65-59.
The Jaspers will leave Arizona at 2-4 while North Dakota goes to an even 3-3.
The Green and White were in control for the first half, entering halftime with a 34-23 lead. In the first half,
Bella Nascimento provided 16 points on 6-11 shooting.
In the second half, the Fighting Hawks were able to cut the lead down to five entering the fourth quarter, outscoring the Jaspers 17-11 in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the game was tied up at 49-49 thanks to a layup by the Fighting Hawk's Jolene Deninger.
From there, the Jaspers went on an 8-0 run which was capped off by a three by Nascimento, making the score 57-48 with 3:48 left in the game. The Fighting Hawks proceeded to score 14 unanswered points to take a 63-57 lead with less than 30 second left, sealing the come from behind win for North Dakota.
Petra Juric recorded her third consecutive double-double since returning to the lineup for the Jaspers, finishing todays contest with a 22 points and 11 rebound performance. Nascimento picked up where she left off yesterday, pouring in 21 points on 8-16 from the field.
Jade Blagrove finished with nine points and an impressive seven thefts, the most any Jasper has recorded in a single-game since
Courtney Warley recorded seven of her own against Iona on Feb. 22, 2019.
The Jaspers return to Riverdale for their next game, with the Rams of Fordham coming to Draddy for this year's edition of the Battle of the Bronx on Saturday, Dec. 3. Tickets for the game can be purchased
