RIVERDALE, N.Y. –The Manhattan volleyball team fell in straight sets to Niagara in the road Sunday afternoon.
The Jaspers fall to 1-24, 1-14 in the conference while the Purple Eagles move to 7-17, 5-9 in the MAAC.
All three sets were dominated by the Purple Eagles offensive attack, but Manhattan showed a glimpse of their offensive skills. Particularly in the first set, jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the early moments of the set. In that span,
Camila Gomez supplied three of the four points courtesy of a pair of kills and an ace. The set was a back-and-forth affair until when the Purple Eagles were up 12-11, they rattled off 11 straight points, effectively sealing the set in favor of the Niagara.
Set two followed a similar blueprint, with the Green and White jumping out to a 4-1 lead once again, and it being competitive until a large Purple Eagle run, this time an 8-point run at 11-10 to make the score 19-10, which would be too deep of a hole to come back from.
Julia Menocal finished the match with seven kills while Gomez was right behind her with six.
The Jaspers return to Draddy for senior day this coming Saturday against Quinnipiac at 1 p.m.
