Jaspers Secure Road Win at Saint Peter's

JERSEY CITY, NJ– The Manhattan Jaspers outscored Saint Peter's 66-56 to secure a narrow victory on Thursday night. This win moves Manhattan's overall record to 10-8 and 5-4 in MAAC play. 

In the first meeting between the teams this season, the Jaspers would strike early leading 22-14 after one. The Jaspers grabbed 11 rebounds and three steals in the first ten minutes of play.

The Jaspers turned up the intensity in the rest of the half and held the peacocks to just three points in the entire second quarter. Continuing their defensive prowess, Manhattan hit the boards hard. The Jaspers outrebounded Saint Peter's 20 to 15, with 16 of those coming on the defensive end. The Green and White added five steals in the first half. Additionally, the Jaspers took advantage of their size, adding 24 points from inside the paint during the half. The Jaspers ended the half leading 34-17.

In a competitive second half, the Jaspers fought hard to maintain their lead. The Green and White continuity to prove why they are a top rebounding team in the MAAC, finishing the game outrebounding the Peacocks, 40-29—turning those rebounds into six second-chance points. The Jaspers forced 20 turnovers and converted them into 19 points. Manhattan added five total blocks. The Green and White shared the wealth in scoring, completing the game with six different players scoring. Manhattan managed to maintain their lead and win by ten over the Peacocks, 66-56. 

Four Jaspers scored in double figures. Dee Dee Davis had a game-high 20 points with five assists. The guard added one rebound and four steals. Junior forward Jenna Jordan finished ten points, four rebounds, and one assist. New Jersey native Brazil Harvey-Carr added 13 points and three rebounds. Sophomore Jade Blagrove tallied six points, three assists, and grabbed eight rebounds. 

Graduate student captain Courtney Warley proved why she is described as the heart of this team. She secured a double-double on the day, her seventh of the season. She tallied a game-high 11 rebounds and added 13 points.

Graduate student Kendra Williams led Saint Peters with 13 points, and two rebounds to pace the Peacocks. 

Manhattan travels to Iona on Thursday. The Jaspers and Gaels tip at 7 p.m. and can be watched on ESPN3.
