Riverdale, NY -
Manhattan earned a series victory over Siena thanks to splitting today's doubleheader at Gaelic Park on Senior Day.

The Jaspers won the opener by a 3-1 count, before dropping the nightcap by a 4-0 score.

With the split, the Green & White is now 16-10, while the Saints are 15-11

Game One
Manhattan took the opener against Siena by a 3-1 count thanks to the speed of sophomore Gabriella Mazzotta (Somers, NY / Somers) and the pitching of graduate student Nicole Williams (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's).

In the bottom of the first inning, Mazzotta drew a walk, swiped second, advanced to third on a ground out and swiped home to produce the first Jasper run of the game. Senior Victoria Alonso (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) then plated classmate Daniela Chiorazzi (Sr., Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) with a single to short to extend the Green & White advantage out to 2-0.

Manhattan added to the lead in the bottom of the third with Mazzotta serving the role as catalyst. After drawing a leadoff walk, she stole second, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on junior Annie Moore's (Northridge, CA / El Camino Real) RBI ground out.

Siena would be quelled for most of the game, but finally broke through with a single run in the seventh, but was unable to get any closer thanks to Williams. The fifth-year Jasper improved to 7-1 with her second victory of the weekend, yielding just one run on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

Mazzotta drew two walks, scored twice and stole three bases to pace Manhattan on offense, with Alonso and Moore registering the lone hits for the Green & White.

Game Two
Fueled by a four-run fifth inning, Siena took the nightcap by a 4-0 score.

Alonso, sophomore Marika Deemer (Perrysburg, OH / Perrysburg) and senior Emma Kindblom (Wilbraham, MA / Wilbraham & Monson Academy) all singled to the lead the way for Manhattan on offense.

Deemer also registered a strikeout over 1.2 scoreless frames, while senior Kali Puppolo (Adams, MA / Herkimer County CC) struck out one over an inning of one-hit relief.

Manhattan will next be in action on Wednesday, April 28 at Iona, with first pitch slated for 2:00 pm.
