West Long Branch, NJ - Manhattan won this weekend's series with Monmouth thanks to splitting today's doubleheader at the MU Softball Field.
The Jaspers (11-7) took the nightcap by a 2-1 score, after dropping a 1-0 decision to the Hawks (8-4) in the opener.
With the split, the Green & White took three-of-four from the preseason MAAC favorite while winning the all-important tiebreaker.
Game Two
* Graduate student
Nicole Williams (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's) fired a complete-game victory to lift Manhattan to a 2-1 win over Monmouth to clinch the series victory.
* Williams (4-1) struck out nine while yielding just one run on three hits and four walks over 7.0 dominant innings.
* The Jaspers scored both of their runs in the second inning.
* Senior
Daniela Chiorazzi (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) led off the frame with a walk, before scoring on sophomore
Kaitlyn Flood's (Southbury, CT / Pomperaug) RBI double. Classmate
Marika Deemer (Perrysburg, OH / Perrysburg) would plate Flood on the next play.
* Williams would make sure the two runs would hold up, as Manhattan traded the lone Hawk run for the second out in the seventh, before the fifth-year Jasper induced a fly out to end it.
* Graduate student
Christine Gebhardt (Middletown, NJ / Middletown North), Flood and freshman
Kristyn Smith (South Plainfield, NJ / Mount Saint Dominic Academy) all doubled to lead the way on offense for a Jasper unit that rapped out four hits.
