Riverdale, NY - Manhattan was in complete control of Wednesday afternoon's game against Canisius en route to a 3-1 win. The Jaspers led 1-0 at halftime before growing their lead to 3-0 midway through the second half. Canisius broke through with two minutes left but the damage was already done thanks to an impressive offensive performance from the Jaspers.
*Early shots on net from Brandon Joseph-Buadi and Johan Velez got the Jaspers offense off and running and they never looked back. Manhattan's opening goal came in the 12th minute when Joseph-Buadi found Oswald Annang open in the box for a volley finish. With the finish, Annang increased his goal total to five on the year which leads all Manhattan players.Â
*Lucas Cyriacus and Joe Spires checked in up top for Manhattan in the first half and helped sustain the Jaspers' growing momentum. Spires almost broke loose for a breakaway on one play while Cyriacus had a clever drag pass to Annang whose ensuing shot was denied by Canisius goalie William Howard.Â
*Canisius' best opportunities in the opening 45 minutes included a strike from outside the box that ricocheted off the crossbar and a header off a counter-attack that didn't have enough pace on it to fully challenge Manhattan goalie Danny DiMarco.
*In the 57th minute, Ronaldo Da Silva left his imprint on the game with a nifty dribbling sequence near the end line before depositing a shot in the back of the net. Da Silva, who has played in three games this season due to injury, had his best performance of the season with one goal on four shots.Â
*Joseph-Buadi capped off the scoring in the 60th minute when Jamie Cotter dished a ball to him down the right side leading to a finesse shot and finish for Joseph-Baudi. The goal was Joseph-Buadi's first on the season and 16th in his career while sporting the Kelly Green & White.Â
*Joseph-Buadi was sent off in the 62nd minute after getting a second yellow card. In total, there were six cards issued between the two teams.Â
*Danny DiMarco got the start for Manhattan and was credited with six saves. DiMarco fell two minutes short of finalizing his third clean sheet of the season when the Golden Griffs got one back in the closing moments.Â
*Manhattan outshot Canisius 31-17 in the three-goal performance.Â
*With the win, Manhattan improved to 1-4-1 in MAAC play and 3-7-2 overall.Â
*Manhattan will return to Gaelic Park on Sat., Oct. 23 to face Saint Peter's (6-7-1, 4-2-1 MAAC) at 12 p.m. Before the game, the program's seniors will be honored as part of the Senior Day festivities.
