Jaspers Close Out Regular Season At Home

Riverdale, NY - Manhattan women's basketball (14-14, 11-8 MAAC) will host Monmouth (8-19, 5-13 MAAC) in the Jaspers' final game of the regular season on Thursday, March 5 in Draddy. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm on ESPN+.

GAME NOTES

The Home Stretch
After defeating Iona on March 2, the Jaspers secured a bye/top five seed  in the upcoming MAAC tournament. Currently ranked third in the MAAC with one game to go, Manhattan is jockeying for position against Fairfield and Quinnipiac, who are both 10-8 in the MAAC with two games to play, and are each also playing Thursday night.

Last Outing
Reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) finished with a team-high 13 points in the Jaspers' 59-47 win over Iona, scoring all of her offense in the second half after being plagued by foul trouble in the first. She went 4-8 from the floor and 4-5 from the free throw line, helping the Jaspers widen the difference between them and the Gaels after being up just one at halftime.  Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) earned her sixth-straight double-figure scoring game, contributing 12 points to Manhattan's offense. Pamela Miceus (Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) led Manhattan on the glass with 10 rebounds, just one off her career- and season-highs. She tied her career-high of four blocks, as well.

Warley's World
While the Jaspers have gone 5-1 over the last six games, Warley has scored in double-figures in all six of those games, including three consecutive 20-point games. After averaging 22.0 points per game during the Jaspers' Western New York swing, she was named the MAAC Player of the Week, as well as the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week, the first Manhattan women's basketball player to earn the Met nod. On February 26, Warley also earned a spot on the NCAA women's basketball "Starting Five" among players from the Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC.

Good LaPointe
LaPointe earned her league-high seventh MAAC Rookie of the Week award on March 2. LaPointe leads the squad in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per game (12th in the MAAC), the most of any freshman player. Her 1.6 threes per game against MAAC teams also places her sixth in the conference.

About the Hawks
Scoring 50.7 points per game, Monmouth owns the MAAC's 11th-ranked scoring offense, but the Hawks also have the league's best scoring defense, allowing just 57.5 points per contest. Sierra Green is Monmouth's highest scorer, putting in 10.7 per night and hitting 2.3 threes per game (fourth in the MAAC). The Hawks' Alexa Middleton ranks fourth in the league for rebounding, pulling down 8.3 per game.

Previous Meeting
Manhattan overcame an 18-point deficit to force overtime against Monmouth on December 17, but a basket by the Hawks' Lucy Thomas in the final seconds gave Monmouth the 62-60 win in both teams' first MAAC contest of the season. Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) scored a season-high 20 points in the game, including eight in the third quarter. She added a game-high six assists and four steals. The meeting was also the game in which junior guard Lynette Taitt (Bronx, NY / Bishop Loughlin) suffered a season-ending injury.

All-Time Series
Monmouth holds a 16-11 advantage in the teams' all-time series. The Jaspers last won against the Hawks on January 28, 2018, closing out the game on a 14-2 run en route to a convincing 63-53 win over Monmouth at Draddy Gymnasium.
