Trochiano finished 4-for-5 with four runs, while sophomore
Nick Cimillo (Airmont, NY / Suffern) was 4-for-5 with four RBI and a run to pace a 12-hit Jasper attack.
Franco also scored three runs, while graduate student
Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) had two hits and two RBI and junior
Matt Padre (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) two RBI to highlight the top offensive performers.
The Jaspers improve to 2-6 while the Islanders fall to 4-6.
Manhattan struck first in its first trip to the plate with a pair of runs, as Cimillo plated Trochiano with a RBI single, before Padre chased home Franco with a RBI ground out.
Texas A&M Corpus Christi answered with four runs in the third, before the Jaspers reclaimed the lead in the fifth. Cimillo delivered another RBI single and Barrella laced a two-run triple to account for the scoring. Manhattan would extend the lead out to 7-4 in the seventh inning with Cimillo and Padre registering run-scoring hits. Unfortunately, the Islanders would immediately answer with three runs to tie it up. In the top of the ninth, Cimillo would again give the Green & White the advantage with his fourth RBI single of the game, but the lead would be short-lived as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi answered with a two-out, RBI triple in the bottom part of the frame. The never-say-die Jaspers would immediately respond in the top of the 10th as Trochiano reached via a two-out single and Franco hit an absolute laser to center to provide the winning run. Junior RHP
Teddy Sabato (Rye Brook, NY / UNC) earned the win, striking out three over 2.0 innings of relief. Senior RHP
T.J. Stuart (Milford, CT / Joseph A. Foran) turned in another quality start, striking out six while yielding just two earned runs on two hits over six hits. The teams will conclude their three-game series on Sunday, March 1 at 2:00 pm (EST).
