Greene's Last-Second Shot Pushes Manhattan Past Quinnipiac

Box Score (PDF) | Highlights

Hamden, CT -
Sophomore Tykei Greene's (Queens, NY / Long Island Lutheran) layup with 1.7 seconds to play lifted Manhattan to a hard-fought 65-63 road victory at Quinnipiac in MAAC action.

With the win, the Jaspers improve to 11-10 and 7-5 in the MAAC, while the Bobcats fall to 11-11 and 6-6 in the league.

Greene's acrobatic shot allowed Manhattan to collect its second MAAC season sweep of the season, following Friday's win over Niagara.
Senior Pauly Paulicap (Elmont, NY / Harcum College) led the way for the Green & White with 15 points and eight rebounds. The Jaspers jumped out to a 31-29 lead at the break, thanks to forcing 18 Quinnipiac miscues, leading to a decisive 15-0 advantage in points off turnovers.

In the second half, Manhattan methodically built its lead up to 51-40 with 9:09 to play, but was unable to put the Bobcats away.

Quinnipiac quickly answered with six-straight points, only to see junior Nehemiah Mack (Harrisburg, PA / Massanutten Prep (VA)) bury a triple to push the advantage back out to eight at the third media stoppage (7:43). With the Green & White advantage now 59-52 with 3:40 to play, the Bobcats ripped off an 8-1 run to tie it up at 60-60 with 1:19 to play.

After stopping the Jaspers on the ensuing possession, Quinnipiac had a chance to take its first lead since early in the game, but was denied and Mack drained a pair from the line. Paulicap would then split a pair after another stop to give the visitors what appeared to be a comfortable three-point lead. However, Aaron Falzon had other ideas and drained a deep three pointer to tie things up at 63-63 with 12 seconds to play, while setting the stage for Greene's theatrics. Manhattan registered 15 steals, while forcing Quinnipiac into 25 miscues that led to be a decisive 21-3 advantage in points off turnovers. Sophomore Warren Williams (Kingston, Jamaica / St. Benedict's Prep (NJ)) had another strong game with 14 points, three blocks and two steals, while classmate Christian Hinckson (Queens, NY / Tilton School (NH)) added eight points, four steals and two assists to round out the top performers for the Jaspers.

Tyrese Williams scored a game-high 21 points, while Kevin Marfo added 11 points with 13 rebounds to pace the Bobcats.

Manhattan will return to action at Iona on Friday, February 14 at 7:00 pm.
