Staten Island, NY - Senior
Luke Hanson (Middletown, NY /Â Minisink Valley) handed out a MAAC-record matching nine assists to lead Manhattan to a dominating 16-5 win over Wagner in non-conference action at Hameline Field.
Hanson, who also had a goal, matches the league record of nine set by Marist's Chris Pistello on April 13, 1997 against Niagara.
The Jaspers improve to 2-1 with their biggest win since a 20-5 victory over Wagner on April 3, 2012, while the Seahawks fall to 1-2.Â
Junior
Jake Nicolosi (West Islip, NY / West Islip) opened the scoring just over a minute into the game, only to see Wagner immediately answer to draw even.
From that point it was all Manhattan, with Hanson playing a huge part of the Jaspers' offensive domination.
Freshman
Kyle Gucwa (Pottstown, PA / Bishop Shanahan) gave the Jaspers a 2-1 lead off a feed from Hanson.
Senior
Trevor Pelletier (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) then notched three-straight scores, the last of which off stretched the lead out to 5-1 with just over four minutes to play until halftime.
Senior
Brandon Grinnell (Wakefield, MA / Wakefield Memorial) then tacked on back-to-back scores, before Nicolosi capped the half the same way he started it, with a goal to make it an 8-1 game at the break.
All told, Manhattan finished the half with a 7-0 spurt, with Pelletier scoring three times with an assist, while Grinnell added two goals and an assist, with Hanson fueled the run with four assists.
After halftime, Wagner momentarily stopped the bleeding before the Hanson-Grinnell show was back at it as the pair combined for back-to-back scores to make it a 10-2 game.
Hanson would continue to make his presence felt, assisting on
Sean MacKinney's (Jr., Martinsville, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) goal that made it an 11-3 game with a nifty feed.
He then added two more assists and a goal to cap his banner day.
Grinnell and Pelletier finished up with four goals and an assist, while MacKinney also added a hat trick to join Hanson as the top offensive performers for the Jaspers.
Lost among the offensive fireworks was the outstanding play by junior
Brendan Krebs (East Williston, NY / Chaminade), who turned away seven shots in the first quarter en route to finishing with 14 saves on the afternoon.
Jake Garb paced Wagner with two goals.
Manhattan will look to make it three in a row next week against Bryant, on Saturday, February 29 with opening faceoff at Gaelic Park slated for 12:00 pm.
