Manhattan Returns Home For Saint Peter's Match-Up

Riverdale, NY - Manhattan women's basketball (8-11, 5-5 MAAC) will host Saint Peter's (5-13, 2-7 MAAC) in the second meeting of the two teams this season on Saturday, February 1 in Draddy Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm on ESPN3. 

The game also marks the Jaspers' annual Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration and it will be followed by a post-game all-sports clinic in Draddy. All children 12 and under will receive free admission to the game.

GAME NOTES

Last Outing
Manhattan couldn't escape a combined 48 points from Rider's Stella Johnson, the nation's leading scorer, and teammate Amari Johnson, as the MAAC-undefeated Broncs earned a 76-53 win over the Jaspers in Lawrenceville on January 30.

Freshman Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) earned her seventh-straight double-figure scoring performance, leading the Jaspers with 13 points. She added a team-high eight rebounds, one-off her career-high, to pace the Jaspers on the glass for the second time this season. Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan and Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) each contributed 10 points to the Jasper offense against the Broncs. Warley added two steals to her stat line, while Cajou doled out three assists.

Rookie of the Week
LaPointe earned her league-high fifth MAAC Rookie of the Week award on January 27 after leading the Jasper offense with 14.5 points per game over two games last week. She leads the squad in scoring, averaging 12.4 points per game (15th in the MAAC). She also ranks 15th for three-point field goal percentage (.333) and fifth for three-pointers made (2.1 per game). LaPointe averages 30.6 minutes per game, the most of any freshman in the MAAC.

Warley on the Warpath
Warley ranks 21st in the MAAC for scoring (10.4 points per game), while ranking fourth in rebounding (7.7 per game). With 2.58 steals per game, she is second in the league and ranks 33rd in all of Division I.

Milestones
With 271 career assists, Cajou is six away from tying Joann Nwafili (2004-08) for 15th all-time and 28 away from the program's top 10. She is also 18 steals away from tying Michelle Pacheco (2006-10) at 15th on that all-time list. 

Warley has 571 career rebounds, now 14 away from tying Nadia Peters (2007-12) for 15th all-time and 29 from 600. Warley is also 31 steals away from tying for 15th on that all-time list. 

With a career-high four blocks against Iona on January 25, Pamela Miceus (Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) moved into 13th all-time, surpassing Linda Bores (1980-84) and current Manhattan Athletic Director Marianne Reilly (1978-82). She now has 55 blocks for her career and is 10 away from 12th place in program history.

About the Peacocks
Saint Peter's continues to lead the MAAC in scoring, averaging 73.7 points per game as a team. However, the Peacocks also give up the most points per game at 80.5. With 14.5 points per game, Taiah Thornton leads Saint Peter's and ranks seventh in the MAAC. Including Thornton, four Peacocks rank in the league's top 20 for scoring. Thornton also ranks fourth in the MAAC with 2.4 steals per game.

Previous Meeting
Manhattan held Saint Peter's to 26 points below its season average, besting the Peacocks in an 85-52 victory at the Yanitelli Center on January 9. The Jaspers shot 55.7 percent for the game, including a 66.7 percent third-quarter where Manhattan scored 28 points. 

Warley scored a team-high 16 points, while Lizahya Morgan (East Hartford, CT / Capital Preparatory Magnet) contributed 14. Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) paced the Jaspers on the glass, pulling down a game-high seven rebounds, including six defensive boards. Her six assists on the day was a career-high for Høier, who added 13 points.

All-Time Series
Saint Peter's leads the all-time series 52-37. However, the Jaspers are undefeated against the Peacocks in seven games under Head Coach Heather Vulin.
