Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Jaspers Defeated By Stags

Fairfield, CT - Manhattan women's basketball fell to MAAC-undefeated Fairfield 87-47 on Thursday night in Alumni Hall. The Jaspers drop to 7-10 on the season and 4-4 in MAAC play, while the Stags improve to 9-6 and 6-0 in the league.

Highlights:
  • Freshman Emily LaPointe scored a team-high 17 points on 7-11 shooting in the game, her 12th-double-figure scoring game of the year and the eighth time she has led the Jaspers in scoring. LaPointe now tops the squad with 12.4 points per game this season and 14.4 points per MAAC contest.
  • Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) contributed 10 points for the Manhattan offense, the eighth time this season she has scored 10 or more points in a game. She added four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
  • Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) led the Jaspers with six rebounds, including five on the defensive end.
  • Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) doled out five assists.
  • Despite going 11-23 in the first half, the Jaspers battled an even higher shooting percentage from the Stags, who shot more than 63 percent on the other end for the first two quarters, including 6-8 from three. Fairfield's Katie Armstrong had a game-high 19 going into the locker room at halftime, going 8-10 from the floor and hitting half of the Stags' baskets from behind the arc.
  • In the third, the Jaspers adjusted to a full-court press, and were able to force five turnovers from Fairfield with four steals. But the Stags continued their offensive onslaught, again shooting over 60 percent and hitting three treys, extending the lead to 29, a deficit the Jaspers couldn't overcome in the final quarter.
  • Fairfield's defense forced 18 turnovers from Manhattan, resulting in 26 points off turnovers for the Stags.
  • The Jaspers were able to earn 28 points in the paint and 10 second-chance points with 11 offensive rebounds. But Fairfield snagged 27 boards on the defensive glass.
  • Armstrong finished with a career-high 27 points, while Sam Kramer added 20 for Fairfield.
