UConn Knocks Off Manhattan

Box Score (PDF)

Hartford, CT –
UConn (3-3) scored in the opening minutes of the first and second halves to defeat the Manhattan Jaspers 2-0 at Dillon Stadium.

Manhattan (0-4) controlled the field for much of the 90 minutes of play, producing more shots (9-7) and more corners (4-2) than the Huskies, but could not get on the scoreboard.

One of the nation's top scorers, Jordan Hall scored his NCAA leading seventh goal in the seventh minute of the contest on a breakaway. Cole Venner added a tally in the 63rd minute to double the advantage for the Huskies to 2-0.

The Jaspers outshot UConn 4-2 in the second half of play, including shots on goal from senior Tristan Doran (Jupiter, FL / Benjamin) and junior Brandon Joseph-Buadi (Brighton, England / Woodard).

Manhattan's first five non-conference opponents are now 20-6-2 to begin the season, with St. John's climbing into the top-10 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll following a 5-1 win at Columbia, and Rutgers entering the poll at No. 24.

The Jaspers will next play against St. Francis Brooklyn at Poly Prep Country Day School on Saturday, September 21 with opening kick tabbed for 7:30 pm.
