Jaspers Head To Chattanooga Classic

Chattanooga, TN -
Manhattan volleyball (2-4) will travel to Chattanooga, TN for the team's final three-match tournament of the non-conference season.

The Chattanooga Classic, hosted by UT Chattanooga, will kick-off for the Jaspers at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 13 when they take on Tennessee Tech, followed by a match against North Alabama at 3:00 p.m. On Saturday, September 14, Manhattan will face the tourney host at 11:00 a.m.

Match Notes:
  • The Jaspers won their first two matches of the 2019 season on September 6, sweeping Delaware State in three and defeating Lafayette in four at the Crosstown Tournament. 
  • Lizzi Brown (Orlando, FL / Bishop Moore) led the Jaspers with 28 kills over three matches at the tournament, including a career-high 12 in the Jaspers' win over DSU. She also earned nine kills, four blocks and two aces against Lafayette, on her way to ATAX Student-Athlete of the Week honors. 
  • Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) currently leads the MAAC with 1.18 blocks per set and 26 total blocks so far this season. She also ranks eighth in the conference for hitting percentage at .248. 
  • Meagan Miller (Oakville, ON / Oakville Trafalgar) ranks fourth in the MAAC for hitting percentage this year, earning 31 kills on 78 attempts for a .282 percentage. 
  • The Jaspers will meet Tennessee Tech for the first time in program history. The Golden Eagles are 0-6 overall this season, though two of those matches have come against ranked opponents: #15 Michigan and #24 Louisville. 
  • Taylor Dorsey leads Tennesee Tech with a .216 hitting percentage this year, adding one block per set.
  • North Alabama is 1-5 on the season, defeating Belmont in four sets for the team's only win of the season. 
  • Alyssa Dutton is averaging 2.9 kills per set for the Lions, while Nura Abakar is the team's best blocker, averaging 0.92 per set. 
  • Chattanooga jumped out to a 2-1 record early this season, but now rest at 2-5 overall.
  • Dani Szczepanski already has 63 kills on the year for the Mocs, hitting .315 so far this season.
