After the teams played the opening stanza to a draw, UMass Lowell struck first before Manhattan quickly answered just over a minute later with a Nicolosi goal off a Hanson feed.
The River Hawks responded with three-straight scores before the Hanson-to-Nicolosi connection was back at it again in trimming the deficit to 4-2 with 6:48 to play until halftime. Sophomore
Justin Malpica (Glen Head, NY / Long Island Lutheran) followed with a goal off a feed from MacKinney, only to see the visitors answer just over 30 seconds later in taking a 5-3 lead into the break.
Hanson opened the second-half scoring just 20 seconds into the third period to again make it a one-goal game.
Unfortunately, that would as close as the Jaspers would get as UMass Lowell notched three-straight goals in jumping in front 8-4.
Junior
Mike Lombardi (West Islip, NY / West Islip) would get one back with 5:40 remaining in the game off a MacKinney feed to provide the final 8-5 count.
In goal, sophomore
Brendan Krebs (East Williston, NY / Chaminade) made 14 saves in another solid effort in goal.
Brandon Beland, Jake Lining and Gage Sevigny all scored two goals to pace the River Hawks while Grant Lardieri had eight saves in picking up the win.
Manhattan is next in action at Siena on Saturday, March 16 with opening faceoff slated for 1:00 pm.
