Bronx, NY - Fordham posted a 9-0 win over Manhattan in the annual Battle of the Bronx at Houlihan Park.
The Rams improve to 12-8 while the Jaspers fall to 4-14.
Manhattan threatened in each of first two innings, before Andy Semo opened the scoring with a two-out solo home run to left field in the bottom of the second.
Fordham extended the lead out to 2-0 in the third with an unearned score.
The Jaspers would threaten to tie it up in the top of the fourth as sophomore
Matt Padre (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) was plunked leading off the inning, before classmate
Santiago Riera (RIoclaro, Venezuela / Brunswick (CT)) drew a one-out, four-pitch walk. The pair would move into scoring position on a two-out wild pitch, but were left stranded.
In the bottom part of the frame, the Rams extended the lead out to 7-0 with five runs, highlighted by Alvin Melendez's one-out grand slam.
Fordham would add runs in the sixth and seventh innings in providing final 9-0 score.
Padre paced a five-hit offense, going 2-for-3 while being plunked.
Junior LHP
Joe Chionchio (Bay Shore, NY / Belmont Abbey) led the pitching unit, striking out two in registering a scoreless frame in relief.
Senior RHP
Jacob Knight (Oakley, CA / Chabot CC) also was impressive on the mound, striking out two in an inning of work while freshman RHP
Jeff Long (Orangeburg, NY / Bergan Catholic (NJ)) fanned two over 2.0 innings.
Melendez went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and earned the win for the Rams with three strikeouts over 2.0 innings.
