Manhattan Surges Past Canisius

Riverdale, NY - Manhattan (11-18, 9-9 MAAC) broke open a close game with a big second half, posting a dominating 53-33 win over Canisius (11-18, 9-9) in the regular season finale for each team. 

Manhattan finishes conference play tied with Canisius and Monmouth for fourth place in the league. Tiebreaker rules land the Jaspers at #6 in the upcoming MAAC Tournament, where they will face #11 Saint Peter's on Thursday, March 7 at 1:30 p.m.

Highlights:
  • Julie Høier ( Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) scored 14 points with nine rebounds and three assists off the bench to pace the Jaspers on offense against the Griffs.
  • Sophomore Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) pulled down 11 rebounds, reaching double-figures on the glass for the 15th time this year.
  • Warley and junior Pamela Miceus (Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) each blocked three shots.
  • Freshman Kania Pollock (Queens, NY / The Mary Louis Academy) narrowly missed his first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high eight rebounds.
  • Sophomore Lynette Taitt (Irvington, NJ / Bishop Loughlin) handed out a game-high five assists, against one turnover, with three steals.
  • As a unit, Manhattan registered an impressive 2.67 assist/turnover ratio, committing just six turnovers, a season low. The Jaspers forced 17 Canisius miscues on the other end. 
  • The Jaspers scored 13-straight points in just 3:20 of the third quarter to jump in front 35-20 with 2:50 remaining. In the fourth quarter, the lead would grow to a game-high 20 on two occasions. 
  • The duo of Sara Hinriksdottir and D'Jhai Ricks-Patteron combined for just two points, on 1-of-17 shooting, after going for 33 points, on 14-of-30 shooting, in the first match-up.
  • The 33 points yielded by the Golden Griffins matched a season-low (the Jaspers held Iona to the same amount on January 18).
