Arlington, VA - Manhattan dropped a doubleheader by scores of 7-6 and 18-7 to George Washington in non-conference action at Bancroft Park.
Freshman
Nick Cimillo (Airmont, NY / Suffern) led the way, going 5-for-7 with a double, home run, two walks and two runs on the day.
The Colonials are now 5-4 while the Jaspers are 2-6 as the teams will conclude their series with a single game at 10:00 am on Sunday, March 3.
Game One
GW rallied for a 7-6 walk-off win in the opener thanks to a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the 11th.
Despite the loss, Manhattan showed impressive resiliency in scoring four runs with two outs.
Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth, junior
Dominic Palma (Hilton, NY / Hilton) led off with a double before moving to third on senior
Richie Barrella's (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) infield single, with Barrella advancing to second on an error. Freshman
Keury Abreu (Bronx, NY / St. Raymond) followed with a two-run single to tie the game up while forcing extra innings.
In the top of the 11th, freshman
Sam Franco (Bardonia, NY / Clarkstown South) led off with a single. He would later come around to score on a
Santiago Riera (So., Rioclaro, Venezuela / Brunswick (CT)) two-out single to give the Jaspers their first lead of the game.
Unfortunately, the Colonials would rally for two runs in the bottom part of the frame to earn the win.
Cimillo was a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run and a walk while graduate student
Shawn Blake (Stratford, CT / Elon) was 2-for-5 with a double, run and a walk to pace a 13-hit Manhattan attack.
Senior RHP
Joe DiTorrice (Montgomery, NY / Montgomery) was impressive out of the bullpen, striking out five while yielding two runs, one earned, on three hits over 6.0 innings.
Nate Fassnacht and Cade Fergus combined to go 6-for-10 with five RBI, two runs to lead the waay for GW.
Game Two
George Washington registered an 18-7 win over Manhattan in the nightcap.
In defeat, Franco and Palma each had two hits with a home run to pace the Jaspers on offense.
Cimillo also went yard with his second long ball of the year as Manhattan had 10 hits.
Tyler Hix was 3-for-5 with two doubles, four runs and seven RBI to lead the way for the Colonials.
