Riverdale, NY - Manhattan women's basketball put together an 86-56 win over Army Friday, December 13 in Draddy, shooting over 47 percent from the floor as a team in the Jaspers' final home game of 2019.
Manhattan improves to 3-5 on the season, while Army falls to 3-7 overall this year.
Highlights
- Manhattan's 86 points were the most scored by a Jasper team under Head Coach Heather Vulin. Manhattan's .474 field goal percentage for the game was just shy of the team's season best of .479, earned in a win over Dartmouth on December 1.
- Manhattan shot 70.6 percent in the first quarter for a 27-14 lead, going 12-17 from the field and 3-5 from three, including a long-range jumper at the buzzer from Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland).
- The Jaspers totaled a season-high 21 assists Friday night, as well, while committing just eight turnovers.
- Manhattan also forced 23 turnovers from Army, the most of any opponent this season, and held a 28-5 points from turnovers advantage on the night.
- Junior guard Lynette Taitt (Bronx, NY / Bishop Loughlin) put in a season-high 14 points for Manhattan, while adding a game-high five assists, tying her season best earned at Villanova on November 21. Taitt also contributed six rebounds and two steals for the Jaspers.
- Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) continued to lead Manhattan on the boards, pulling down a team-high eight rebounds against the Black Knights. As a team, the Jaspers totaled 41 rebounds in the game, the second-best rebounding performance of the season for Manhattan (46 against Fairleigh Dickinson was the highest so far).
- Manhattan hit eight threes in the game, shooting nearly 35 percent from behind the arc. Sydney Watkins (Wanaque, NJ / Saddle River Day) contributed half of those buckets, going 4-10 from three in the game. She and freshman guard Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) earned 12 points apiece for the Jasper offense, while LaPointe added five rebounds and a block.
- Nine players scored five or more points for the Jaspers.
- Lindsey Scamman had a game-high 17 points for Army, while also adding 14 rebounds, another game-high.
