Jaspers Host Duquesne In Home Opener

Riverdale, NY - Manhattan women's basketball (0-1, 0-0 MAAC) will welcome Duquesne (0-2, 0-0 A10) to Draddy Gymnasium Sunday, November 10 in the first ever meeting of the two programs. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.

GAME NOTES

The Basics
Sunday's match-up will be streamed on ESPN3, the first game produced by Manhattan College's sports production concentration. Watch live and follow @manhattan_wbb on Twitter for in-game updates.

Gameday Honors
Manhattan Athletics will retire the number of former women's basketball player Sheila Tighe in a ceremony to be held prior to today's game. Manhattan's all-time leading scorer across both the men's and women's basketball programs, Tighe will be just the second alumnus to have their jersey hung from the rafters after Jack Powers in 2016. Fans should be in their seats by 1:30 pm for the retirement ceremony.

At halftime, the 1978-79 women's basketball team, the first varsity team in program history, will also be honored after being inducted into the Manhattan Hall of Fame on Saturday, night.

Last Outing
Manhattan held a 10-point lead on Stony Brook in the second quarter November 8, but the Jaspers were unable to stave off a Seawolves comeback, losing 59-54 in Island Federal Credit Union Arena. Manhattan held the lead for 25:08 with just three lead changes in the contest.

Sophomore guard Sydney Watkins earned a team-high 12 points against the Seawolves, shooting 80 percent from the floor and a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc. Teammate Lynette Taitt tied her career-high for rebounds, securing a team-high eight for the night. She added eight points to the Jasper offense and snagged three steals of the defensive end.

The Dukes
Duquesne starts out the season with two losses, first, a 77-75 heartbreaker to Kent State on November 5, then a uneven 85-72 loss to Temple on November 8. This will be the Dukes's third game in six days.

The Dukes return 41.3 percent of their offense from last season, led by junior Libby Bazelak, who averaged 7.4 points per game a season ago. She also led the A-10's top team in assists with 94 total (2.9 per game) and ranked second on the 2018-19 squad in rebounds per game (5.5). She ranked second in the A-10 in total steals (61), and was 4th in the conference in steals per game (1.91) last year.
