Poughkeepsie, NY – The 2019 campaign came to a close on Sunday evening for Manhattan, as the Marist used a pair of second goals to post a 2-1 win.
The Jaspers finish the year with a 6-10-1 record while the Red Foxes move on with a 10-8 mark.
Trailing by two goals in the 70th minute, junior
Brandon Joseph-Buadi (Brighton, England / Woodard) scored his fourth goal in the last five games, as he dribbled down the far side of the pitch, and curled home a beautiful shot from a difficult angle to slice the deficit in half.
Manhattan nearly opened the scoring in the 56th minute, when a terrific defensive challenge by junior
Francois Dulysse (Greeacres, FL / UCF) turned into a quick counter attack. Joseph-Buadi carried possession into the attacking and delivered a rifle shot that was deflected aside by the Marist netminder Sam Illin. Senior
Tristan Doran (Jupiter, FL / Benjamin) corralled the rebound and whistled a shot off the far post.
Just a minute later, Red Foxes opened the scoring as Allen Gavilanes fired a long range shot that just missed the outstretched hand of senior goalkeeper
Marcellin Gohier (Nantes, France / CENS). Marist doubled the lead in the 60th minute, as a Gavilanes shot forced a diving save from Gohier, and Justin Jaime was in position to tap in the rebound.
Manhattan had one final opportunity to tie the match in the 87th minute, when junior
Berti Fourrier (Marseille, France / IFC Marseille) received a cross from Doran, beat his mark and delivered a dangerous shot that looked destined for the back of the net, but was blocked at the last possible moment by a Marist defender.
Gohier was terrific in defeat for the Jaspers, making five saves in his collegiate finale.
The Red Foxes outshot the visitors in the match, while Manhattan had an 8-3 advantage in corners.
