Jaspers Topple Quinnipiac In Marathon Match

Hamden, CT - Manhattan volleyball outlasted Quinnipiac Sunday, October 6, going five sets, including two extended, to earn the Jaspers' first MAAC victory of the season. 

Manhattan now sits at 3-14 overall this season and 1-5 in conference, while Quinnipiac drops to 5-9 and 1-4 in league play. 

Highlights:
  • Sunday's match was destined to go the distance when the Jaspers and Bobcats battled into the 30s in the first set, with Manhattan finally winning 32-30. Quinnipiac took the next two (25-17, 25-12) before the Jaspers kept the match alive in the fourth, winning 28-26. Manhattan sealed the match with a 15-13 win in the fifth. 
  • The long match helped the Jaspers to several career stat-highs, including a collegiate best 15 kills for Julia Menocal (Bronx, NY / Preston). Libero Nashally Eleutiza (Orlando, FL / Monroe) tallied 31 digs, a career-best for her, and setter Julieanne McKee (Poughkeepsie, NY / Spackenkill) earned 42 assists. 
  • Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) tied her career-best for blocks with seven, last reached at Lafayette on September 6. Hoener now has 215 total career blocks, ranking ninth in program history. 
  • Meagan Miller (Oakville, ON / Oakville Trafalgar) added six blocks for Manhattan, tying her career best reached against Elon on August 31. 
  • Vivian Donovan (Newport Beach, CA / Newport Harbor) tied Menocal for a team-best 15 kills in the match, while the Jaspers' attack was also bolstered by nine kills from Kelly Markowski (Winter Park, FL / Lake Highland Preparatory). 
  • Donovan led the team with 19.5 points for the match, adding 14 digs, two aces and five blocks, tying her career-best, which was achieved against Quinnipiac on October 13 of last year.
  • There were 37 tied scores in the match, as well as 17 lead changes, including six in the fourth set.
  • Manhattan hit .300 as a team to put away the Bobcats in the final set, while holding Quinnipiac to .043 hitting in the stanza.
