Warley Nabs Double-Double In Canisius Loss

Buffalo, NY - Sophomore center Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) earned her second double-double of the season as the Jaspers were defeated by Canisius 47-44 in the team's first MAAC game of the year.

Manhattan's record falls to 2-10 on the year and 0-1 in conference play. Canisius jumps to 3-9 for the season and 1-0 in the league. 

Highlights:
  • In addition to her team-high 13 points and 10 boards, Warley tied her career high in blocks with five. She added four steals and three assists to her day, while going nearly 40 minutes with just one turnover. 
  • Eight of Warley's rebounds came on the offensive end. She leads the MAAC in offensive rebounds per game this season, now averaging 3.75.
  • Manhattan opened the game down 11-0 in the first half of the first quarter, but managed a 9-0 run to close out the period down just two and holding Canisius scoreless for nearly five minutes.
  • Down 10 going into the fourth, Manhattan opened the quarter with a 11-5 run, cutting the Canisius lead to four with just under five minutes to play. 
  • A driving jumper from sophomore guard Lynette Taitt (Irvington, NJ / Bishop Loughlin) put the Jaspers within two with a little more than 13 seconds to play. But a crucial steal by the Griffs 10 seconds later sealed the victory for Canisius. 
  • Taitt added eight points for Manhattan on the day, as well as three assists, two steals and two blocks. Manhattan tallied 10 total blocks in the game, compared to just four for the Griffs. 
  • The Jaspers committed 15 turnovers in the game, compared to Canisius' 24. However, Manhattan gained only 13 points off the Griffs' TOs, with Canisius earning 13 points off turnovers, as well. 
  • Junior forward Julie Hoier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) added a season-high seven rebounds for Manhattan, including a team-high five defensive boards. 
  • Canisius' D'Jhai Patterson-Ricks scored a game-high 17 points in the contest, while Sara Hinriksdottir added 16 of her own. 
  • Danielle Sanderlin pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds for Canisius.
