Jaspers Fall To Siena In OT Battle

Loudonville, NY - Three Jaspers scored in double-figures on Friday, January 11, taking Siena to extra time before falling to the Saints 62-56 in Loudonville.

Manhattan drops to 0-3 in the MAAC and 2-12 overall. Siena remains undefeated in the league (3-0) and improves to 7-7 this season.

Highlights:
  • Sophomore guards Lizahya Morgan (East Hartford, CT / Capital Preparatory Magnet) and Lynette Taitt (Irvington, NJ / Bishop Loughlin) each put in in 12 for the Jaspers on Friday. Taitt added eight rebounds, a career-high, while Morgan shot 50 percent from three for the game.
  • Freshman Sydney Watkins (Wanaque, NJ / Saddle River Day) contributed 11 points to Manhattan's offense in a career-high 37 minutes of play.
  • The Jaspers out-rebounded the Saints 46-42, including a 20-12 advantage on the offensive boards. It was the Jaspers' highest rebound total of the season, besting the team's former rebounding high of 44 recorded against Wright State on December 9.
  • Sophomore center Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) pulled down 11 boards for Manhattan, her fifth double-digit rebounding game of the season. Warley led Manhattan in steals (four), blocks (three), and assists (three), as well.
  • Manhattan earned eight opportunities at the charity stripe on Friday, sinking seven. It was the second-best performance at the foul line for the Jaspers this season.
  • Manhattan held a 45-32 lead halfway through the third, before Siena went on a 12-2 over the next five minutes to cut the lead to 47-44 going into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
  • Siena's Maddie Sims tied the game at 52 apiece, hitting a layup with 4:03 left to play in the fourth. Two and a half minutes later, her teammate Sabrina Piper gave the Saints the lead with a layup of her own.
  • Fouled while driving to the basket, Taitt nailed two free throws to tie the game with just a minute to play, forcing overtime.
  • The Jaspers were able to get only one basket in extra time, a layup by junior forward Tuuli Menna (Helsinki, Finland). Siena outscored Manhattan 8-2 in the overtime stanza, securing the six-point win.
  • Siena held the slight 22-18 advantage in the paint Friday, scoring 11 second-chance points to Manhattan's nine.
  • Both teams were able to score 14 points off of turnovers in the game, with each team committing 19 turnovers.
