Jaspers Close Out Weekend Vs. Canisius

Riverdale, NY - Manhattan volleyball played the league's longest set of the season Sunday, winning a 37-35 marathon against Canisius at Draddy Gymnasium. Unfortunately, the big opening victory was the Jaspers' only one of the afternoon, as Manhattan fell to the Golden Griffins 3-1.

Manhattan moves to 0-17 on the season and 0-6 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), while Canisius improved to 6-9 overall and 4-2 in the MAAC.

Highlights:
  • Manhattan's first set saw 18 tied scores and five lead changes, overtaking Marist's 34-32 lost set against William and Mary as the MAAC's longest set of the year. Tied at 35, Canisius committed two attack errors to give Manhattan the win.
  • Senior Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, VA / South County) came up big for the Jaspers Sunday, earning 30 assists and 22 digs, for her third career double-double and her second in two days.
  • Rehrer's career dig total now sits at 1,270, just five away from tying Malia McGuiness (2011-14) for sixth on Manhattan's all-time digs list.
  • Freshman Vivian Donovan (Newport Beach, CA / Newport Harbor) again led the Jaspers' attack, after earning a career-high 12 kills against Niagara on Saturday. Donovan tallied 11 kills against the Griffs, including eight in the first set.
  • Fellow freshman Julia Menocal (Bronx, NY / Preston) also sparked the offense on Sunday, earning a career-high 10 kills on .280 hitting. Menocal added three blocks, as well, tying her career-high first earned against Eastern Michigan on August 25.
  • Senior middle blocker Kenza Hall (Oakland, CA / Middle Tenessee State) posted six blocks for Manhattan against Canisius, her best performance at the net so far this season.
  • Canisius' Leah Simmons led all players with 20 kills, hitting .474 for the match. Teammates Melina Woods and Camila Vazquez both added 10 kills for the Griffs.
  • Sofia Lopez Acosta, the MAAC's digs leader so far this season, added a match-high 29 to her season total. She averages 5.54 per set to top the league.
