Jaspers Head Crosstown For Battle of the Bronx

Bronx, NY - Manhattan volleyball will play its last non-conference match-up of the season against Fordham on Wednesday, September 12 starting at 7:00 pm. The match, the 38th annual Battle of the Bronx, will be streamed live on ESPN+. 

Match Notes:
  • The Jaspers (0-10) are looking to finish out the non-conference portion of the season with a win going into conference play. Fordham (4-5) has played similar match-ups to the Jaspers this season, also competing in the Jack Kaiser Classic against St. John's, Eastern Michigan, and Central Connecticut State, and going 1-2 in the tournament with a win against the Blue Devils. The Rams also beat Cal State Fullerton, who defeated Manhattan 3-0 on August 30. 
  • Manhattan sophomore middle blocker Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) was named to the 2018 Blue and Gold All-Tournament Team after the Jaspers' three-match campaign at the University of Toledo this past weekend. She earned eight kills in nine sets played, as well as eight blocks, averaging 0.89 blocks per set.
  • Hoener leads the Jaspers with 22 blocks this season, and is tied with teammate Casey Monroe (Riverview, FL / Riverview) for a team-high 36 kills this year. Hoener also ranks eighth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in blocks per set (0.79). 
  • In the last outing for the Rams, Kaitlin Morley led the way offensively with 36 kills, followed closely by McKenna Lahr's 33. Morgan Williams led the way defensively with 40 digs.
  • Senior libero Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, VA / South County) has earned 145 digs so far this season, averaging 4.53 digs per set to lead the Jaspers and rank third in the MAAC. Now at 1,193 digs for her career, Rehrer sits at eighth on the program's all-time list.
  • With 138 assists so far this season, Shruti Mangipudi (San Ramon, CA / Doughtery Valley) leads the team in her first year with Jaspers and averages 4.93 assists per set.
