Hamden, CT -
Quinnipiac staved off Manhattan by a 9-5 count in MAAC action at the QU Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.

After allowing the Bobcats to find the back of the net seven times in the first quarter, the Jaspers limited Quinnipiac to just two goals the rest of the way, including none after halftime.

In the second half, the Manhattan defense forced nine Bobcat turnovers while allowing just three shots on net. Unfortunately, the QU goalkeeper turned away eight shots while the hosts forced seven Jasper miscues in denying the upset bid.

Quinnipiac improves to 6-5 while staying undefeated in the MAAC at 3-0 with Manhattan falling to 4-7 and 0-3 in the league

Jake Tomsik opened the scoring less than a minute into the game before sophomore Luke Hanson (Middletown, NY / Minisink Valley) quickly answered with an unassisted score of his own less two minutes later.

The Bobcats then rattled off four-straight scores before senior Andrew Gresham (Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada / Pitts Meadows Secondary) briefly quelled the spurt with his first goal of the year off a feed from junior Parker Giarratana (Delray, FL / Boca Raton Community) with 3:56 to play in the first quarter.

Quinnipiac would notch four of the next five scores in opening up a 9-3 lead with 1:22 to go in the first half.

Sophomore Brandon Grinnell (Wakefield, MA / Wakefield Memorial) would get one goal back off a pass from freshman Jake Nicolosi (West Islip, NY / West Islip) with just two seconds to play in the second quarter to make it a five-goal deficit at the break.

Despite the defensive prowess after halftime, the Jaspers were only able to score once as freshman Wade Agaisse (Warren, NJ / Delbarton) registered his first collegiate goal just over a minute into the third quarter.

Sophomore Trevor Pelletier (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) scored the other Manhattan goal with Giarratana finishing with a pair of assists to round out the top performers on offense for Manhattan.

Senior Michael Zingaro (Cortlandt Manor, NY / Walter Panas) made five saves in defeat while junior Joseph Bressingham (Glen Cove, NY / Nassau CC) went 8-of-13 on faceoffs with five ground balls and Hanson added four ground balls to lead the way on defense.

Mike Fletcher had three goals and three assists to pace the Bobcat effort with Joe Zukauskas making 11 saves in earning the victory.

The Jaspers return to action when they host Detroit Mercy on Saturday, April 14 at 12:00 pm with Senior Day activities to precede the game.
