Brandon Valls (Miami, FL / Dean CC) went 3-for-3 with three walks, four RBI and two runs while classmate
Michael Pfenninger (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) crushed his second career home run to lead Manhattan to a 12-4 win over Hofstra in non-conference action at University Field.
The Jaspers improve to 14-12 while the Pride falls to 12-9.
Valls led a Manhattan offense that rapped out 12 hits with 14 walks with eight regulars reaching base safely twice.
Senior
Adam Genners (Jacksonville, FL / Stanton College Prep) went 3-for-6 with a double, run and RBI while junior
Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) had two hits with a walk while extending his hitting streak to 14 games to join Valls as the top performers on offense.
With the score tied at 2-2 after two innings of action, the Jaspers made their move in the top of the third in plating six runs while sending 11 batters to the plate.
Barrella led off with a single before freshman
Matt Padre (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) and sophomore
Alex Cerda (Miami, FL / Florida Christian Prep) walked to load the bases with no outs. Valls broke the deadlock with a two-run single before Pfenninger followed with a three-run shot to give the visitors a 7-2 lead. Later in the frame, junior
Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) capped the scoring with a single to plate Genners in staking Manhattan to an 8-2 advantage.
After Hofstra got a run back in the fifth, the Jaspers put the game away with three in the seventh. Cerda drew a bases loaded walk before Valls delivered another two-run single to account for the scoring.
Cerda would later score the final run for the visitors on an error as the visitors posted the aforementioned 12-4 victory.
Senior LHP
Steve Arntsen (Manorville, NY / Eastport-South Manor) improved to 2-2 with a strikeout over 1.1 scoreless innings of work while junior RHP
Anthony Fanelli (Astoria, NY / Msgr. McClancy Memorial), classmate RHP
Logan Muratalla (San Dimas, CA / Mt. San Antonio) and sophomore RHP
T.J. Stuart (Milford, CT / Joseph A. Foran) all fired scoreless frames.
Rob Weissheier went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run to lead the way for Hofstra.
Manhattan returns to action with a doubleheader at Siena on Saturday, April 7 with first pitch tabbed for 1:00 pm.
