Buffalo, NY - Canisius posted a 19-11 wire-to-wire win over Manhattan in MAAC action at the Demske Sports Complex.
The Golden Griffins improve to 6-7 and 3-2 in the MAAC while the Jaspers fall to 4-9 and 0-5 in the MAAC.
Sophomore
Luke Hanson (Middletown, NY / Minisink Valley) scored two goals and added three assists and freshman
Justin Malpica (Glen Head, NY / Long Island Lutheran) scored twice to pace a Manhattan attack that saw nine different Jaspers find the back of the net.
In the opening period, Canisius scored three-straight goals before sophomore
Brandon Grinnell (Wakefield, MA / Wakefield Memorial) found the back of the net off a pass from classmate
Trevor Pelletier (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) to trim the deficict to 3-1 with 5:25 to play in the opening stanza.
The teams then traded scores as Hanson found the back of the net for the first time on the day before the Golden Griffins answered with a pair of tallies in taking a 6-2 lead after one period of play.
Junior
William Ratchford (Mountain Lakes, NY / Mountain Lakes) opened the second-period scoring off a pass from classmate
Parker Giarratana (Delray, FL / Boca Raton Community) before Canisius responded with three-straight goals in opening up a 9-3 advantage with just over five minutes to play until halftime.
Malpica quelled the spurt with a score off a pass from Hanson in making it a 9-4 game at the break.
After halftime, the Golden Griffins scored the first two of the third quarter before Hanson again found Malpica for his second goal of the game in trimming the deficit to 11-5 with 7:55 to play in the third.
Canisius would extend its advantage out to 14-5 before senior
Andrew Gresham (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada / Pitt Meadows Secondary) lit the lamp off a pass from Giarratana. Hanson then picked up his third assist as junior
Rob Johnson (Bayport, NY / Mount St. Mary's) registered his first goal of the year in making it a 14-7 game after three periods of action.
In the fourth quarter, Pelletier, Giarratana, Hanson and freshman
Gallagher Gregory (Niskayuna, NY / Niskayuna) all found the back of the net to provide the final 19-11 count.
Senior
Michael Zingaro (Cortlandt Manor, NY / Walter Panas) made 12 saves between the pipes while junior
Joseph Bressingham (Glen Cove, NY / Nassau CC) was 13-of-23 in the faceoff X with eight ground balls to pace the defensive effort for the visitors.
Manhattan will conclude the season on Friday, April 27 when the Jaspers host Siena at Gaelic Park with opening faceoff slated for 7:00 pm.

* Giarratana now has a team-leading 20 goals, 20 assists and 40 points.
* Giarratana's 20 assists are the the most by a Jasper since
Eugene Tanner notched 21 in 2005.
* Zingaro recorded his 37th career double-figure save performance.
* 76.4 percent of the Manhattan's goals (84-of-110) and 63.1 percent of their assists (41-of-65) have been recorded by underclassmen.
* Gregory and Johnson's scores were all the first of their careers.
* Manhattan didn't commit a penalty all game.
