Zane Waterman (Winston-Salem, NC / Fayetteville Academy) scored 14 points but it wasn't enough as Manhattan dropped a 72-60 decision to Iona in the Quarterfinals of the 2018 MAAC Tournament.
The Jaspers see their season end with a 14-17 record while the Gaels improve to 18-13 and will next face No. 9 Saint Peter's in the semifinals.

Zavier Turner (Indianapolis, IN / Ball State) handed out six assists, against just two turnovers, with nine points. Fellow senior
Calvin Crawford (Middletown, NY / St. Thomas More (CT)) capped his career with five points and four rebounds.
Iona sprinted out to an 11-2 lead only to have Waterman answer with seven of the next nine points as Manhattan would trim the deficit to 17-16 with 11:26 to play until halftime following a Crawford three pointer. Unfortunately, Schadrac Casimir answered with a three pointer in sparking a 12-2 spurt as the Gaels opened up an 11-point advantage.
Manhattan could continue to battle and cut the deficit to 35-29 at intermission following buckets from Waterman and Williams.
After halftime, the Gael lead would grow to 51-37 with 13:03 to play following a pair of Zach Lewis free throws. The Jaspers would respond with six-straight as Williams and Paulicap combined to hit on six free throws in making it a 51-43 game with just over eight minutes remaining.
Manhattan would get to within six at 53-47 with 6:43 to play following a Turner jumper but was unable to get any closer the rest of the way.
Lewis scored a season-high 23 points with nine rebounds to pace Iona while Casimir added 18 and E.J. Crawford 14 to round out the double-digit scores for Iona.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The quartet of Crawford, Turner, Waterman and Williams combined for 38 points and 17 rebounds and combined to account for 63.1 percent of Manhattan's scoring (1355/2147) and 53.4percent of the Jaspers' rebounding (550/1030) on the year.
- Turner cracked the 1,400 point mark for his career and finishes up with 1,404 points,to go along with 435 assists, 192 three pointers and 103 steals.
- Waterman moved into 18th place on the all-time Manhattan scoring list with 1,275 points to go along with 655 rebounds.
- Williams finished up with 1,187 points and ranks 24th in the all-time annals.
- Manhattan limited Iona to just 37.3 percent (19-of-51) shooting from the floor, including 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from deep, while holding the Gaels without a field goal
- The Jaspers registered a 39-33 advantage on the glass.
- Manhattan held Iona without a field for 11:37 of the second half while forcing the Gaels into 11-straight missed shots.
