Bronx, NY -
Manhattan opened MAAC play with a sweep of Saint Peter's by scores of 15-5 and 2-0 at Houlihan Park.

With the sweep, the Jaspers have now won six of their last seven games in improving to 10-10 while the Peacocks fall to 0-11.

MAAC Player of the Week Richie Barrella (Jr., Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) led the way in the sweep, going 5-for-7 with a triple, run, stolen base and five RBI.

GAME ONE
Manhattan set the tone for Saturday by scoring seven runs in the second inning before for all intents and purposes putting the game away with three runs in the third and fourth innings

Barrella was 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBI while graduate student Matt Forlow (Haldane, NY / Cold Spring) was 3-for-6 with four RBI and two runs to pace a 15-hit Jasper attack with senior Adam Genners (Jacksonville, FL / Stanton College Prep) going 2-for-4 with his first collegiate home run and four RBI.

Junior RHP Marc Galvan (Brielle, NJ / Manasquan) improved to 2-1 with the win, striking out seven, against one walk, while yielding two runs, one earned, on three hits over 6.0 innings.

Cole Robbins went 2-for-5 with a run and a RBI to lead the way for Saint Peter's.

GAME TWO
Graduate student Matt Simonetti (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) struck out a career-high 10 while scattering just two hits over 7.0 innings in firing a complete game shutout.

Manhattan scored what would prove to be the lone runs of the game in the third inning with a two-out rally. Forlow singled before Fabian Pena (Jr., Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) was plunked and Barrella followed with a RBI single that plated Forlow with Pena scoring on an error.

The two runs were all that Simonetti (2-1) needed as the Garden State native recorded three perfect frames while facing just one over the minimum in his other four innings of work.

Barrella was 2-for-3 with a RBI to pace a six-hit Jasper attack.

Nick Ciocco had both Saint Peter's hits while Willie Krajnik struck out six over 7.0 innings of two-run ball.

UP NEXT
The teams will conclude their series with a single game on Sunday, March 25 at 4:30 pm at Houlihan Park.
