Bronx, NY - Manhattan completed its first series sweep of the season with a dominating 18-2 win over Saint Peter's at Houlihan Park.
Winners of 7-of-8, the Jaspers improve to 11-10 and a perfect 3-0 in the MAAC while the Peacocks fall to 0-12 and 0-3 in the league.
Manhattan quickly jumped in front with four runs in the top of the first inning. Freshman
Will Trochiano (Morganville, NJ / Marlboro) led off the game with a single before graduate student
Matt Forlow (Cold Spring, NY / Haldane) was plunked. Junior
Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) followed with a RBI single as Trochiano evaded the throw home. Junior
Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) then continued his torrid hitting with a run-scoring single to plate Forlow. Sophomore
Alex Cerda (Miami, FL / Florida Christian Prep) kept up the hitting barrage with a ground rule double to force in Pena while pushing Barrella to third. Freshman
Matt Padre (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) capped the scoring when his RBI ground out plated Barrella.
The Jaspers added to their lead in the second with three more runs in jumping in opening up a 7-0 lead. Senior
Adam Genners (Jacksonville, FL / Stanton College Prep) led off with a single before moving to second when Forlow walked with one out. Genners then scored on a successful hit-and-run as Pena smoked a single through the left side. Forlow would later score a Barrella sacrifice fly before Pena crossed the plate on a
Brendan Bisset (Sr., New City, NY / Don Bosco Prep (NJ)) double.
Manhattan continued to attack and scored three more runs in the top of the third and fourth innings in jumping in front by an insurmountable 13-0 advantage.
The Jaspers would add five more runs over the final three frames en route to posting the aforementioned 18-2 victory.
Manhattan rapped out 20 hits with 11 different Jaspers notching at least one, including five with multiple-hits.
Trochiano recorded his first career four-hit game with three runs and a double while extending his hitting streak to 11 games to pace the offense. The Garden State native has also now reached base safely in all 21 games to start his career.
Pena was 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI while Padre went 3-for-6 with a double, three runs and two RBI to round out the top offensive performers for Manhattan.
Junior RHP
Joe DiNizio (Middlesex, NJ / Middlesex) struck out four while yielding just one unearned run on four hits over 6.0 innings in moving to 1-2 on the year.
Nick Ciocco was 2-for-4 to lead the way for Saint Peter's.
The Jaspers return to action at Columbia on Tuesday, March 27 with first pitch tabbed for 3:30 pm.
