New Britain, CT - With a double down the left field line in the top of the seventh inning, Manhattan junior
Lauren Pitney (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's) broke a six-inning no-hitter by Central Connecticut pitcher Emily Sargent to help the Jaspers to a 2-0 victory over CCSU in the second game of a doubleheader in New Britain, CT on Saturday, March 24. The Jaspers' (10-9) fell to the Blue Devils (8-13) 5-4 in nine innings in the first match-up of the day.
Pitney's double was followed by a double from junior
Kat Prevo (San Diego, CA / Our Lady of Peace), who earned an RBI when Pitney scored on the hit, giving Manhattan a 1-0 lead in the final inning with just one out. Senior
Briana Matazinsky (Valley Falls, NY / Tamarac) then singled up the middle to send Prevo home, putting the Jaspers up 2-0.

Nicole Williams (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's), who pitched a complete game, letting up just six hits while striking out seven, went three up, three down in the bottom of the seventh to complete the shutout and give the Jaspers the win. With the victory, Williams is now 5-3 from the mound, earning half of Manhattan's 10 wins so far this season.
Despite combining for nine hits, including doubles from Pitney, Matazinsky,
Shannon Puthe (Mullica Hill, NJ / Saint Joseph's) and
Adriana Gambino (Stamford, CT / Westhill), Manhattan was less successful in the first game of the doubleheader, falling to CCSU 5-4 in nine innings.
The Blue Devils took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, sparked by a homer from CCSU's Sydney Bolan. Manhattan responded with three runs of their own in the fourth, then took a 4-3 lead in the fifth when Pitney doubled to center field, scoring Puthe.
CCSU tied it up at four-all in the bottom of the seventh inning, forcing extra innings. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Central Connecticut's Giuliana Hathaway singled to right field, advancing all runners and batting in the game's winning run for the Blue Devils.
With 7.1 innings pitched, Matazinsky (3-4) took the loss for the Jaspers. In 34 batters faced, she struck out eight and let up eight hits. Matazinsky was relieved in the eighth by
Kayla McDermott (Garnerville, NY / North Rockland), who faced six batters, striking out two and letting up two hits.
Both Prevo and Matazinsky went a combined 3-6 on the day, both earning two RBIs.
