Northridge, CA - Manhattan dropped a 5-1 decision to CSUN in the series finale between the teams at Matador Field.
The Matadors improve to 4-3 while the Jaspers fall to 0-6.
CSUN struck first, scoring three runs in the opening stanza before adding a run in the third in opening up a 4-0 lead.
Manhattan would get on the board in the top of the eighth in trimming the deficit to 4-1. Senior
Adam Genners (Jacksonville, FL / Stanton College Prep) led off with a single before advancing to second on a
Will Trochiano (Fr., Morganville, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) single. Genners then advanced to third on a ground out before scoring on a
Fabian Pena (Jr., Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) RBI single.
The Jaspers would threaten in the ninth as junior
Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) and freshman
Matt Padre (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) led off with back-to-back singles. Unfortunately, the Manhattan rally would go for naught as CSUN reliever LHP Isaiah Nunez entered and promptly got the final three outs.
Genners went 2-for-2 with a run to pace a seven-hit Jasper attack while graduate student
Matt Simonetti (Manalapan, NY / Manalapan) struck out five while yielding one run on three hits over 4.1 innings of relief.
Nine different Matadors hit safely with RHP Walker Armstrong earned the win, striking out four over 5.0 innings of two-hit ball.
Manhattan returns to action at VCU on Friday, March 2 at 3:00 pm.
