DeLand, FL - Stetson (3-0) defeated Manhattan (0-3) by a 6-2 count in the series finale between the teams at Melching Field.
Junior
Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) led the Jasper offense, going 1-for-3 with two RBI while freshman
Will Trochiano (Morganville, NJ / Marlboro) went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.
Aided by a pair of throwing errors, Manhattan struck first with an unearned run in the top of the first as Pena plated senior
Brendan Bisset (New City, NY / Don Bosco Prep (NJ)) with a sacrifice fly.
The Hatters rallied with two runs in the first and one in the second in taking an early 3-1 lead.
Junior RHP
Marc Galvan (Brielle, NJ / Manasquan) then entered and fired 4.0 innings of one-hit ball while keeping the Jaspers in the game.
Manhattan would trim the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the sixth as Trochiano doubled with one out before coming around to score on a two-out Pena RBI single.
Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Jaspers would get as Stetson responded with a run in the seventh and two in the eighth en route to posting the aforementioned 6-2 victory.
Jacob Koos went 2-for-4 with a triple, run and RBI to pace an eight-hit Hatter attack. Mitchell Senger struck out nine while yielding two runs, one earned, on two hits over 6.0 innings in earning the win.
Manhattan will return to action on Friday, February 23 at 5:00 pm (EST) when the Jaspers open a three-game series at Cal State Northridge.
