Newark, NJ – Manhattan swimming and diving capped Sunday's effort in the NJIT Invitational with each program picking up a win on the season at the NJIT Wellness and Events Center.
The women's side took down MAAC rival Saint Peter's 159-57 before falling to Mount St. Mary's and LIU Brooklyn. The men's team dispatched the Mountaineers 134-96, but suffered its first losses of the season to the Peacocks and the Highlanders.
The Saint Peter's men's squad swept the competition to finish as the top men's team, while the Blackbirds' women's group swept all three of its opponents.
Manhattan is idle for 3 days before heading back to Fairfield, CT, this time visiting Sacred Heart. The women will tackle the Pioneers as well as Holy Cross in a tri-meet, while the men battle the Crusaders in a dual meet. Diving is expected to begin at 11:30 am, with the swimming heats starting at 1:00 pm at the McCann Natatorium.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Sarah Hamilton (Northland, New Zealand / St. Cuthbert's College) finished second in the 200 Free with a season-best time of 2:00.28, third in the 500 Free at 5:27.61 and fourth in the 200 IM at 2:18.43
- Freshman diver Lexington Passamonte (Rochester, NY / Greece Athena) took home the goldin both the 1-meter dive (176.05) and the 3-meter dive, beating her own record with a 198.35 tally.
- Senior Cassandra Rubino (Thiells, NY / North Rockland) received the silver in the 100 Fly as she was the fastest Jasper at 1:00.98.
- Juniors Kelsey Eastman (Effort, PA / Wagner) and Kali Nembach (Lynbrook, NY / Lynbrook) went back-to-back in both the 50 and 100 Free, placing third and fourth, respectively, in the 50 Free, and fourth and fifth in the 100 Free. Four Jaspers cleared the top 10 in the latter heat.
- The 200 Free Relay quartet featuring Eastman, Nembach, senior Morgan Fountain (Chesire, CT / Chesire) and freshman Jamie Quinn (Fairfax, VA / WT Woodson) earned the bronze at 1:42.96.
- Junior Carolyn Crocker (Broad Channel, NY / Archbishop Molloy) and senior Kathryn Voitik (Moscow, PA / Scranton Prep) went fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 1000 Free, with Crocker's time clocking in at 11:32.03.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Andre van Huyssteen (Paarl, South Africa / Paarl Boys) won both the 200 Free (1:42.10) and 100 Fly (51.26 seconds).
- Sophomore Artur Polyak (Haifa, Israel / Pittsburgh) placed first in the 100 Back (52.93 seconds) and second in the 200 IM (1:57.60)
- Freshman Branden Deiss (Benoni, South Africa / Crawford College Lonehill) collected the silver medal in the 1000 Free thanks to a time of 10:14.29 and was also in the top-five in the 500 Free at 4:58.64.
- Polyak, van Huyssteen, junior Timothy Valentine (Massapequa, NY / Chaminade) and freshman Kyle Bergin (Lynbrook, NY / Lynbrook Senior) combined to finish third in the 200 Medley Relay in 1:37.48.
