Riverdale, NY - Despite registering 17 shots in the game, Manhattan fell to Iona 1-0 in overtime on Wednesday evening at Gaelic Park.
The loss puts Manhattan at 3-4 in the MAACÂ and 10-5 overall. Iona jumps to 3-3-1 against conference foes with a 7-5-2 record on the year.
In the 97th minute, Iona's Esad Mackic possessed the ball towards the end line and fired a close-range shot by the post on Manhattan keeper
Marcellin Gohier (Nantes, France / CENS). Gohier deflected the opportunity, but Josh Plimpton cleaned up the rebound, redirecting the ball to the other post to end the game in the first overtime.
Gohier made four saves in the effort. Forwards
Berti Fourrier (Marseille, France / IFC Marseille) and
Lucas Da Silva (West Palm Beach, FL / Palm Beach Atlantic) led the way with three shots each.
The Jaspers will make their way to Western New York for a match with Niagara on Saturday, October 20 at 6:00 pm before the team heads into its one-week bye.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Six different Jaspers recorded multiple shots.

FIRST HALF
- In the sixth minute, junior defender Angee Komano (Toulouse, France / Université Montpellier) made an impressive slide tackle to dispossess an Iona forward on a breakway.
- Ten minutes later, Gohier snuffed out a 30-yard free kick from the left sideline that was curling towards the box.
- Da Silva had a solid cross from the middle in the 20th minute that Iona netminder Giuliano Santucci punched out, and junior captain Tristan Doran (Jupiter, FL / Benjamin) tried to deposit the rebound from outside the box, but went wide.
- In the 31st minute, sophomore midfielder Desmond Cole (Aurora, CO / Cherokee Trail) had a great slide tackle of his own near midfield to change possession.
- Within a span of 32 seconds in the 38th minute, the Jaspers had four shots, two of them blocked, and a corner kick that did not result in a goal.

SECOND HALF
- Gohier had to make a sliding save 32 seconds after the half to prevent Ali Dawha from scoring.
- Cole deked a defender in the left corner of the 18-yard box and fired a low-angle shot that forced a Santucci save in the 49th minute.
- In the 59th minute, Da Silva skillfully dribbled by a few Gaels and passed to Fourrier, who made a great turn down the middle from 15 yards out and laced a shot wide right.
- Nine minutes after, Fourrier zipped past multiple defenders down the right, launching a shot inches above the crossbar from 20 yards away.
- Gohier made an acrobatic save in the 71st minute, holding off Mauro Bravo with a dive to his right to get a hand on the rookie's shot. Dawha sent the rebound wide left.
- With less than 15 minutes remaining in the second half, Fourrier had a shot inside 20 yards blocked. The ball trickled out to junior midfielder Milan Devuyst (Ostend, Belgium / ODU), who delivered a shot that an Iona defender forced to the right post and away from the goal.
- In the 82nd minute, Da Silva inserted a well-placed corner kick that sophomore forward Brandon Joseph-Buadi (Brighton, England / Woodard) headed not too far wide left.
