Niagara University, NY - Sophomore
Pauly Paulicap (Elmont, NY / Harcum College) narrowly missed his second double-double of the year with 18 points and nine rebounds but it wasn't enough as Manhattan dropped a 72-63 decision to Niagara at the Gallagher Center.
The Jaspers move to 10-11 and 5-4 in the MAAC and will next square off with Iona at NYCB Live on January 27 at 7:00 pm while the Purple Eagles improve to 13-9 and 6-3 in the league.
Niagara assumed grabbed the lead with a 12-2 run late in the first half en route to jumping out to a 40-33 advantage at the break.
After halftime, the teams traded body blows before Manhattan trimmed the deficit to 48-46 with 12:30 to play following a Paulicap layup.
Unfortunately, the Purple Eagles responded with six-straight points in extending their advantage out to 54-46 at the 11:43 mark only to see sophomore
Aaron Walker Jr. (Brooklyn, NY / Cardozo) answer with a deep triple.
However, as would be the story of the night Niagara immediately hit a three on the other end. Manhattan would continue to fight in making it a two-possession game on five more occasions but was unable to further dent the Purple Eagle advantage.
Walker Jr. added 12 points and three assists with senior
Calvin Crawford (Middletown, NY / St. Thomas More (CT)) chipping in with 11 points and six rebounds to round out the double-digit scorers for the Jaspers.
