Riverdale, NY - Sophomore
Pauly Paulicap (Elmont, NY / Harcum College) scored 17 points with a career-high matching six blocks but it wasn't enough as Manhattan dropped a 68-59 decision to Canisius in front of a nationally televised audience and 1,344 fans, including a sold out 6th Borough, at Draddy Gymnasium.
The Jaspers fall to 9-10 and 4-3 in the MAAC while the Golden Griffins improve to 12-8 and 6-1 in the league.
Canisius used an 11-0 run early in the second half in taking a 42-34 lead with 14:06 remaining while seizing the momentum.
Manhattan would quickly answer with a
Zavier Turner (Sr., Indianapolis, IN / Ball State) triple and would cut it to three at 48-45 with 9:29 remaining following a Paulicap layup.
Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Jaspers would get the rest of the way as the visitors' advantage would grow to a game-high 13.
Canisius shot 51.9 percent (14-of-27) after halftime, including 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from deep, in the decisive stanza while forcing 12 miscues that led to a 15-5 advantage in points off turnovers.
